Clinical Director for Obstetrics at The Royal London Hospital
Dr. Susana Pereira is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist specializing in Fetal and Maternal Medicine. She graduated in Medicine from Oporto University in 1998 and discovered her passion for O&G during volunteer work in Women's and Children's Health in São Tomé and Príncipe, Africa.
Completing her O&G training in Portugal, she served as a Consultant, establishing and leading a Fetal Medicine Unit at Hospital S. Teotónio in Viseu for three years. In 2014, she relocated to the UK, completing a Sub-Specialty in Fetal and Maternal Medicine under Prof. Kypros Nicolaides at King’s College London. She then joined Kingston Maternity as Obstetric Lead until 2022, spearheading a project on Physiological CTG and Human Factors training that reduced perinatal mortality and morbidity, earning a 2018 HSJ Award for "Improving Outcomes through Learning and Development."
Currently, Dr. Pereira is Clinical Director for Obstetrics at The Royal London Hospital, overseeing 5,000 annual deliveries in one of the UK's most diverse and deprived populations. Her expertise spans fetal medicine, monitoring, leadership, communication, and change management. Passionate about global fetal-maternal outcomes, she advances education and research in Fetal Medicine and Intrapartum Care through collaborative publications and the ADAPTS research project.
A dedicated educator, she chairs the European Expert Group on Physiological CTG and delivers over 10 CTG masterclasses annually via Baby Lifeline and Neoventa Academy. Honored with a Certificate of Commendation for Excellent Teaching from St George’s University of London and nominated "Trainer of the Year" in 2015, she attracts thousands of clinicians to her sessions. This book distills her foundational teachings on physiological CTG interpretation for broader accessibility.
